HSYLF RUNS TWO PROGRAMS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS; THE ANNUAL LECTURE AND THE LEADERSHIP AWARD. THE FUND SPONSORS AN ANNUAL LECTURE GIVEN BY A PROMINENT JOURNALIST. THIS LECTURE IS IN RECOGNITION OF HOWIE'S ASPIRING CAREER AS A JOURNALIST. THE HOWIE STILLMAN LEADERSHIP AWARD WAS ESTABLISHED TO RECOGNIZE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. NOMINEES ARE SELECTED ON A NUMBER OF CRITERIA INCLUDING INVOLVEMENT IN UNITED SYNAGOGUE YOUTH; EDUCATIONAL, COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES AND PERSONAL QUALITIES OF WARMTH AND CONCERN FOR OTHERS. THIS AWARD IS AN ATTEMPT TO HONOR A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WHO DEMONSTRATES THESE QUALITIES IN THE SPIRIT OF SOMEONE WHO EMBRACED THEM SO WELL.
